Technical Details
Mac OS X Snow Leopard runs in 32-bit mode at the system (kernel) level. Applications continue to run in 64-bit mode assuming your Mac has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor or newer.
Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server Edition however runs at full 64-bit mode at the system (kernel) level. Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server Edition is only installed on a few Mac models, such as Mac Pro’s, XServe’s, and some Mac Minis.
You may also see “Yes” if you have modified your Mac’s boot software to run in full 64-bit mode at the system (kernel) level.
You can switch your Mac back to the default, Apple recommended 32-bit system (kernel) mode by following these instructions.
Switching your Mac to use the default 32-bit system (kernel) mode will not affect your Mac’s ability to run 64-bit programs. Applications will continue to run in 64-bit mode.
